JHTA Celebrity Spin-Off a hit

Former tourism minister, Aloun Assamba, changed the mood created by Steve Ashley and Tanny Shirley on Saturday, February 23, introducing a string of 1980s disco music at the Celebrity Spin-Off at The Deck on Trafalgar Road in Kingston.

Her 20-minute spin set the pace for the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association Jamaica Product Exchange fundraiser and made way for Guardsman Group's Kenny Benjamin who responded with the best of rock and roll.

greetings

But it was the unassuming director of tourism Basil Smith who brought immense heat with his opening selection of Peter Tosh's Coming in Hot, and as if that was not enough to herald his arrival, he drew from an impressive compilation which included, Half Pint's Greetings, this was followed by a steady repertoire of Jamaican hardcore rockers.

The island's 'Chief Salesman' Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett was up next and he came prepared for contemporary dancehall catalogue, drawing from the likes of Buju Banton and Beenie Man.

The Gleaner's Janet Silvera came out of the box running with a personalised 'dub plate' by female DJ 'Stacious', setting the pace for a searing session which saw her whipping the crowd into a frenzy.

round two

Sunday Herald's R. Christene King took a romantic turn down memory lane, Merritone style, levelling the vibes, while Digicel's Yvonne Wilks turned it up again and delivered some 'wicked' disco music, completing a truly enjoyable evening of musical magic, so much so, that the organisers will make their way to Groovy Grouper at Doctor's Cave Beach in Montego Bay for round two on Saturday, April 5.

The JHTA have confirmed Horace Peterkin, Cecile Levee and Dennis Constanzo and are eyeing Michele Rollins, Senator Noel Sloley and Patrick Casserly to join the big guns from Kingston who plan to invade the tourism capital.
