THE HANOVER Chamber of Commerce (HCoC) is designing a heritage
tour of Lucea to capitalise on the thousands of tourists who pass
through the town on their way to Negril and Montego Bay.

Paradise is the
name of this Great House high in the hills of Hanover above
Kingsvale. It is one of the many graceful old buildings in the
parish |
According to immediate past president of the HCoC, Ryan Morrison,
the tour will incorporate historical sites in the town, including
the 280-year-old Hanover Parish Church, Fort Charlotte and the Hanover
Museum, both of which are also over two centuries old. He was speaking
at a recent meeting of the chamber in Lucea.
"We met with the Institute of Jamaica which has taken over
the Hanover Museum. They were willing to do the historic research
and train the persons here, so we could have a sensible package,"
explained Mr. Morrison.
DRY RUN
"We are trying to do a dry run to see how far it takes us.
It is an idea for the tour, but we want members of the chamber who
are interested to register the company ... business people from
the chamber have to see the tour as business to make money."
According to the banker, the proposed project will feature dry and
a wet tour, from Negril and Lucea, with stops at various points
throughout the journey.
"Our initial tour would take us from the museum to the Hanover
Parish Church to Fort Charlotte, the Lucea Market and back to the
location," he stated.
"We are planning to do a test run, tape the tour and tweak
it. The Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) will be there
to provide advice and then hand it over to persons who are interested
to run the tour. The chamber's approach is more of product development."
