Tourism Awareness Week celebration under way

The celebration of Tourism Awareness Week which began on Sunday, November 26 will culminate on Saturday, December 2 with a Tourism Togetherness Concert at the Santa Cruz Plaza beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Among the performers are the 2006 Rising Stars winners, One Third and the 2006 Dancing Dynamites runner-up Shady Squad. Noddy Virtue, the 2005 Rising Stars runner-up will also be performing before his home crowd.

Tourism Awareness Week 2006 is being observed under the theme: 'Tourism Enriches local culture, heritage and communities.' Activities planned for the period, including Saturday's public concert, highlight the relationship that exists between tourism and communities as well as tourism and Jamaica's culture and heritage.

The week will also include a Tourism Industry Awards function later this evening at Rose Hall Resorts in Montego Bay. On Thursday, November 30, a Community Tourism Workshop and a Tourism Achievement Awards Ceremony will be held at Sandals Whitehouse in Westmoreland while a Hospitality-in-the-park exhibition will take place at Turtle River Park in Ocho Rios.

On Friday, December 1, a youth conference and exposition will be held at Starfish Resort in Trelawny and on Saturday, December 2, the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) St. Ann Chapter will host its annual Charity Fete at Ruins at the Falls in Ocho Rios.
