Tourists being targeted

Dalton Laing, Gleaner Correspondent

Local business interests and students from western Jamaica will have a number of visitors to the island sharing the pleasures and knowledge gathered at this year's staging of the Montego Bay Expo 2007.

According to organisers of the event, the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), efforts will be made to attract tourist interest to the three-day trade show, which is planned for this weekend at the Montego Cruise Ship Terminal.

"We have not done any kind of marketing to attract visitors to the island specifically for the expo but we will be making a significant effort to attract those who will be here at the time of the event," commented Mary Chambers, chairman of the Expo.

She said, however, that fliers will be strategically distributed in the hotels and that the tour desks will also be in motion to publicize the event.

The Montego Bay Expo is in its 12th staging but has been around for 17 years. It was designed to showcase the best that Jamaica has to offer in trade and commerce including workshops and forums where students can be exposed to what is available for the pickings and how to effectively compete on both the local and overseas job markets.
