The Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) named Round Hill Hotel &
Villas in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the Outstanding Caribbean Large
Hotel at a gala dinner on November 4, 2006, at World Travel Market
in London.
The hotel received a Crystal Palm Award for Excellence, given to
industry partners who have stood out in their efforts towards the
development of tourism to the Caribbean from the United Kingdom
and Europe.
Votes cast by Caribbean hoteliers and tourist boards, as well as
tour operators and trade press from the United Kingdom and Europe
chose the winners.
Round Hill, one of Jamaica's most sophisticated and beautiful resorts,
is on 110 acres with its own private beach and features 27 secluded
villas with 74 suites on a hillside that slopes down to the sea
with panoramic views. Most have private swimming pools.
Ralph Lauren, one of Round Hill's shareholders, recently refurbished
the 36 spacious rooms in the Pineapple House Hotel.
A magnificent new main swimming pool, designed on three different
levels by a landscape architect, creates a powerful sense of space
and a landscape of enduring beauty. It boasts two vanishing edges
over the sea for a serene water-on-water effect with water cascading
into a spacious spa pool below. The pool was created with 18th century
stone from the ruins of the Golden Grove Sugar Works in Jamaica,
and sculpted into contemporary lines. The design represents the
best of Jamaica past with the best of Jamaica present. Newly planted
tropical plants and trees leave an entirely natural impression and
honor the ecological qualities of the site.
Known worldwide for its tradition of warm Jamaican hospitality
and an idyllic setting, Round Hill exemplifies the best of Jamaica
and the Caribbean. It's like a cashmere sweater, exquisite to experience
but not the least bit showy.
The Crystal Palm Awards of Excellence is CHA's premier event in
the European Marketplace. It was established in 1997 to honor the
Caribbean's leading travel partners in the United Kingdom and Europe.
