Education - an important platform

The Education component of the 12th staging of the Montego Bay
Chamber of Commerce and Industry Expo 2007 is a new feature which
is expected to boost the awareness of students who will be on the
job market in the near future.
When students from several high schools in western Jamaica visit
the Expo this weekend they can expect to be treated with forums
which are intended to create a better awareness of what is available
and what the options are to effectively compete on the work world.
"If we are talking about business and commerce, the students
are the future entrepreneurs and we need to get them engaged in
what it is we have to offer that we can be proud of," says
Marlene Stephenson-Dalley, event coordinator.
educational options
Mrs. Dalley said that some of the schools attending the expo would
be showcasing some of the training and educational options that
they have to offer so that people can be more sensitised and will
be in a better position to cash in on the offerings. "We want
to expose them to those things so that they know they have choices,"
she said.
The educational aspect of the expo, according to Mary Chambers,
chamber director and chairman of the event, is not confined to the
students but also the business and entrepreneurial interests attending.
"We want to improve performance in the business environment
so we are basically trying to develop business and commerce and
to educate our business people because one of the things we looked
at is the fact that we are now in a global marketplace where we
are no longer just competing among ourselves."
