They all drive taxis as a means of livelihood and were chiefly responsible for showing the three million visitors, who graced the island's shores in 2006, the best of Jamaica. Recently, some of those same ambassadors tagged the island's contract carriage operators representing the Jamaica Union of Travellers Association (JUTA), JCAL and MAXI Tours changed their role and donned swim trunks opting to spend the afternoon on the beach of the popular Aquasol Theme Park attraction in Montego Bay. Tourists for a day. eat to their hearts' content Hosted by operator Robert Hendricks and his staff, the male and female taxi drivers took time out to play dominoes, enjoy the music of the land, drink Red Stripe beer, Guinness, rum and coke and eat to their hearts' content. The annual treat by the attraction operator has become a calendar event among the pivotal group known to compete heavily on the job.
"They have served us throughout the years and this is our way of saying 'Thank You'," noted Robert Hendricks. Hendricks said invitations went out to over 250 drivers, the people who ensure the tourism side of his business stays alive. Using the opportunity to showcase the new offerings at the attraction, he unveiled a series of new Aqua products including his Sunday '70s/'80s oldies' party for the age group he said, "Has nowhere to go," and a Friday evening 'Recess' targeting pre-university students. Saturdays have been designed as 'Games Night'. Regarded as an astute businessman, Hendricks also gave a sneak preview of a new picnic package called 'Aquapak' - which includes watersport activities, jet skiing, water trampoline, kayaking, and the land-based bumper boat and go-kart racing. |
