Walk Good gives airport travellers something to gawk at!

Walk Good Jamaica Limited has opened a new GOOC (pronounced gawk) retail outlet at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.

The shop, which is located in the MBJ Airport Mall, carries a distinct array of handcrafted merchandise that is only available at Sangster International Airport or on Walk Good's website.

"We welcome new and innovative products to the airport. The new shop carries handcrafted imported products and artesian pieces made locally in Jamaica," said Michael Kandert, vice-president of commercial for MBJ Airports Limited.

"Although the new shop has only been open for a short period, we have received many positive comments from our departing travellers who are seeking to purchase a special gift or one-of-a-kind item. Furthermore, GOOC uses only recycled material in their product designs, which coincides with the airport's environmental policy."

Walk Good's managing director, Vanessa Taylor, pointed out that with Jamaica's growing tourism industry, products should be designed and developed to meet international standards.

"To compete in the international marketplace, we must exceed our customers' expectations to obtain their return business. We have been overwhelmed by the travelling public's response to our airport outlet and Jamaican-designed merchandise, which is unique and environmentally friendly," Ms. Taylor noted.

As part of Sangster International Airport's Phase Two expansion programme, the MBJ Airport Mall will be relocated to a new and larger area, which will boast 32 new outlets, in another seven months.

'Walk Good' will open a larger outlet in the new retail precinct.

"Although this is a temporary store for us, we had to demand a design which was creative, yet reflected a distinct 'Jamaican sense of place'," Ms. Taylor responded when asked about the storefront design.

"The zinc-panelled hut with handmade signage and warm colours fit the bill perfectly. Many of our customers at Sangster International Airport like taking pictures in front of the hut, and we enjoy accommodating their requests."
