Reggae Sumfest - an integral part of tourism landscape
Once again, I am pleased to welcome the staging of the greatest reggae show, Reggae Sumfest - set to unfold in our tourism capital Montego Bay.
Like the many lovers of reggae locally and overseas, I too look forward with great anticipation to this signature event, which has become one of the island's most successful and well known productions. Reggae Sumfest has grown both in scale and scope as it brings together some of the best known local and international voices in reggae, R&B, hip hop and pop music over the years.
It is important to emphasise that Reggae Sumfest not only represents a key staple in our entertainment offerings, but has also become an important part of the tourism landscape. The show has contributed to the allure that has attracted so many visitors to the island, adding to the flavour, vibrancy and dynamism that have come to characterise Jamaica's tourism product. This is evident in the impressive support that this important event gets from our overseas visitors, including our Jamaicans from overseas and those at home.
economic catalyst
The staging of Reggae Sumfest also acts as an economic catalyst for the Second City, as it generates a beehive of activities that creates a demand for goods, services and patronage of our hotels and attractions around this time of year. This is the reason the ministry of tourism, through the Jamaica Tourist Board has been a major sponsor of this important music festival during the summer.
Given the track record of Summerfest Productions in consistently delivering shows of high quality and amazing entertainment, I have no doubt that this year's staging will turn out to be another successful music festival on our tourism calendar of events, and will go a far way in providing a memorable experience for all those who attend.
