A landmark hotel in the Caribbean
As Half Moon celebrates its 60th anniversary, there can be no better time for us to celebrate the resort and its stature as a landmark hotel in the Caribbean, as well as our commitment to the Montego Bay community and the country we call home, Jamaica.
The present owners of Half Moon are the descendants of three of the 17 entrepreneurs who started Half Moon in 1954. Over the past 60 years, they have demonstrated their steadfast commitment to the resort and to Jamaica by continuously reinvesting, not only in the hotel and in the training and education of our staff, but also in community enterprises. As a result, Half Moon is recognised as one of the most socially responsible resort hotels worldwide, playing a full role in the community in which it is located.
In celebrating the milestone of our diamond jubilee and the golden anniversary of our golf course, it is timely to recognise that over these six decades, the principles established by our founders remain unchanged, and although Half Moon has grown from 35 acres to 400 acres, the serenity of our uncluttered, carefree and quintessentially Jamaican lifestyle remains the same and the reason so many of our guests and their families refer to it as their home away from home. As has happened since Half Moon opened in 1954, children brought by their parents to our hotel become our guests of tomorrow as they in turn bring their children to experience and relive the memories of a true Jamaican holiday, that are so precious to them.
More than 800 people earn their living directly from Half Moon and several hundred more indirectly. Their natural hospitality coupled with easy smiles and genuine warmth make Half Moon what it is and the reason it is held in such affection. We thank them all for their contributions over these past 60 years, and we assure them and Jamaica of our commitment to make them proud of Half Moon as a prominent member of Jamaica's tourism team.
